Final Assignment

Before I took this course, I considered myself decent at navigating multimedia. I could create basic presentations, including infographs, and felt that I practiced some skills beforehand, such as analyzing my audience and Netiquette. On a scale from 1-10, I would have likely rated myself a 6.5 or 7 when really I was probably more of a 4. I was okay and nothing more, but after being a student in AMA, I believe myself to be extremely familiar with all facets of multimedia, ranging from animation to Photoshop.

I did not anticipate this course to emphasize my creativity as much as it had, aso when the first module opened I was pleasantly surprised to see that every assignment incorporated my personal insight in one form or another. I was also excited to learn how to use new software such as Adobe Premiere and Photoshop, but I really enjoyed the process leading up to the software. Thanks to these assignments, I would now rate my understanding of multimedia at an 9/10 due to how I learned to use new software and comprehend who my audience is and what message I want to convey.

My first breakthrough I had in the course was in Module 8 and how much I loved creating an infograph. I found a cool design website Canva.com which allowed me to utilize and hone all of the skills I learned from that module’s readings and videos. I chose a muted color scheme because it was appropriate to the seriousness of my infograph and selected engaging images to include to catch my audience’s attention since I intended it to be for teenagers. Another great moment I had during the course was with animation. If you had told me in the beginning of the semester that I would have created animations that I was proud of, I would have told you you were crazy. Learning that I could use not only Pivot but Microsoft PowerPoint as animation tools was so mind-blowing to me and I was super proud of both the GIF I made using Pivot and the PowerPoint animation. The stop motion animation was more frustrating for me because I was still new to Adobe Premiere and couldn’t quite edit it the way I wanted it to, but it was still an educational experience nonetheless.

My favorite lesson, however, was understanding how to edit audio. I love using Audacity and one of my favorite assignments from this class is my radio show. It was super fascinating knowing that I could enhance my message with sound effects or music I found online.

My understanding of the information available in the course continued to build on each other, and every module helped improve my understanding of the one before. My understanding of Photoshop drastically improved during my time in this course, from the time it was introduced to me to the final assignment. These assignments were as fun as they were interesting and, at times, frustrating. Regardless of the trials I faced during my time as a multimedia student, it was a great journey. I am incredibly proud of my PSA, which I believe incorporates all of my favorite aspects of multimedia: audio, video, animation, and an infographic. It showcases all of the skills I have learned in AMA and is something I plan to brag about to my friends. 🙂 (Just kidding, but I plan to incorporate all of these skills for future final projects that I have coming up!)
