This is the WordArt that I decided to share with the class. I made a total of three pieces, all centered around one of my favorite movies, including Beetlejuice, The Shining, and Hocus Pocus. This was my favorite because it challenged me the most in terms of making it to my liking. I used font-generator.com to help make the text, then simply searched for free clip art of beetles to use. After that, I recolored both to match the color scheme of the franchise and created this. Inspiration for this piece came from me being a huge fan of Beetlejuice: The Musical. I was listening to the soundtrack when the idea initially came to me, so I decided to bring it to life. It was incredibly fun singing along to the songs from the musical as I created it!
As for its purpose, I can envision this piece being used commercially for the Broadway production, being printed onto merchandise like Playbills or even t-shirts. This is because I believe it fits the aesthetic of the movie and musical perfectly, seeing as I attempted to make it to Tim Burton-esque. Tim Burton has an iconic style, being darker but also cartoony, which is where the perfectionist in me came out. I wanted to communicate to my audience that it is a creepy-but-not-too-creepy movie, hence why I decided on the crooked letters and a simple green beetle. Personally, I think I succeeded in not making it too creepy or too childish, but I am open for feedback if you have a different opinion!
I loved creating WordArt and will definitely apply these skills to future projects. While it was difficult at first, it was so satisfying to create a piece I am so proud of. The frustration was absolutely worth the end product!
This is such a cute example of word art. I love the contrast of the colors and the font that you chose. It’s great!

Well Allyson, I think you have succeeded in creating a word art that is “Burton-esque”, not too childish and creepy-but-not-too-creepy (o: I appreciate your reflective post that lets your readers know not only your process, but also the motivations behind your process. I think you have captured the Beetlejuice vibe with your art for sure – your colors are well chosen. Very well done – and I’m so pleased your post mentions that although it was challenging initially, your successful final product (and apparent enjoyment in the creation of it) will lead you to create more in the future.
